SACRED WORK-part 4. Petty Tyrants & Our Shadow

We are never done healing & growing! Even when we have taken up the role of teacher, guide, healer, or psychic we are still flawed humans with shadowy bits of ourselves left behind to teach us; time and time again, expanding our consciousness through experience. We continuously learn from the world and each other, with one of our biggest teachers being the 'petty tyrant'.

Petty Tyrant- A person or situation that trigger strong emotions in us unintentionally, through reminding us of our personal wounding, and negative traits associated with ourselves or another person or situation.

As a spiritual teacher, the Petty Tyrant , shows up again and again, humbling us; reminding us that we are not without fault, pushing our ever-centered resolve, through the form of clients whose woundings and behaviors trigger us.

My personal trigger is helplessness! I am aware that this can sound pretty shitty coming from a psychic and healer, but I would be remiss in getting my point across if I didn't admit to my own impetus, When reflected back at me, through the mirror of the Petty Tyrant, I recognize that my struggle with people who give into woe-is-me dispair, and helplessness is something I do not tolerate in myself.

When a person is ready to help themselves I am enthusiastically ready to lend a helping hand, but when someone metaphorically gives up and lies prone waiting for someone or something to fix them, my patience is strained. I feel frustration welling up in me, and I need to take a breathe and focus my mind; putting the emotion and lesson it is bringing up on the back burner, so that I can be present and helpful to the client who deserves a non-biased professional.

Being a professional psychic/healer/teacher doesn't make us immune to the triggering of the Petty Tyrant, but understanding it and recognizing it for what it is, (an emotional trigger) makes us more patient with the clients who come our way with their emotional baggage hanging out! It reminds us to meet our clients where they are at, and makes us review our resonse, and travel the road of self-growth every time!

This exploration of self; through the invitation of the Petty Tyrant, is seldom enjoyable...it rankles us, and prods us in the tender bits, often making us respond in anger, sadness, and disdain, but over time and exposure, it looses its power to distort our view, leaving a grace behind that allows us to have a deeper tolerance for our own weaknesses. It also helps us to recognize when we need to set boundaries, when the triggering is a detriment to our ability to perform our job, or simply something we cannot and do not want to tolerate in our life.

Sometimes client-professional relationships just dont click, and the version of the petty tyrant they take on too triggering to tolerate. This does not mean the client is a bad person, nor the professional...it simply means this relationship does not work! In these situations, the best thing we can do is release ourselves from the working; noting that we, the professional are unable to give our best in the situation, and that the client will likely benefit from seeing someone else.

Sacred Work requires us to consistantly show up truthfully for ourselves, in order to do the same for others. It means recognizing when our personal beliefs, experiences, and traumas WILL BE triggered by the people we assist; often completely unitentially, and that we are responsible for how we engage in those situations.

We are continuously evolving, continously becoming more...lesson by lesson, through reflections cast by others, shared traumas, and exceptional moments of awe, we are evolving!
