When you allow yourself to dream big what do you see? I’m not talking about the stereotypical dream of winning the Megabucks and living a life of vacation. I’m talking about what would you be if you could be anything? The starting point to having the life we want is to first know what that life looks like.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson
The first time I read this quote in 1994 & was blown away. I realized how often in my own life I had made myself less because I didn’t want to seem like a show off, or make someone else feel uncomfortable. Some how I had come across the idea that I should not overstep the boundaries…the boundaries of ordinary, regular and same. Normal is not something I have ever been good at & I can remember being referred to as weird at a very young age. I always saw it as a badge of honor, being strange…like an exotic bird. That being said, I still lived a good portion of my younger years not wanting to show what I was truly capable of. The change in my life began with giving myself permission to dream about who I wanted to be. I knew I wanted to be someone who had deep meaningful relationships & someone who was authentic in my words and actions. That meant I needed to be true to myself and allow myself to be vulnerable. I had to let people see who I truly was and let go of worrying whether I would meet the approval of others.
Take some time to look deeply at your future self, examine and create the image of who you want to be. Then start talking about it, make it part of your reality by first admitting you want it. No matter what that thing is you are becoming as long as it is true to you and fueled by love it is worth writing into the story of your life. If you want to be in a fulfilling relationship…start talking about what that would be like. If you want to have a deeper connection to the world around you, talk about what that would be like. Quantum physics has proven that thought matters. So the more we focus on that which we are becoming the stronger the pull for it to become part of our reality. I personally took to heart the message about fearing my light. I stopped allowing myself to be small and stepped fully into me…the Good as well as the bad. Stop wasting your time fretting over your imperfections, and focusing on the things you need to change. Start spending that time shining your good stuff and thinking about what you are becoming and watch the positive changes that enter your life. I invite you to step up, shine that bright light and show the world your good stuff!
