BLACK MOON MAGIC

Magic and the Moon go hand and hand, as the mysterious luminous orb that graces our heavens at night is everchanging and deeply connected to the water of our planet; including those inside our bodies!
For many it is the moon that shelters us as we explore the magical side of ourselves, in fact my own journey into witchcraft was guided by the Moon, and my first coven named Sisters of the Moon. Gathering under the moon we explored different forms of divination and magic focusing our magical manifestations and explorations to coincide with the phases of the Moon; recognizing that we were deeply in sync with its ebb & flow if we took the time to notice.
The Moon is everchanging, shifting through a cycle of waxing into fullness and waning into darkness month after month, and shifting its place on the horizon as the seasons turn with the Earth around the Sun. The dynamic nature of this constant transition adds to its alure, just as its presence adds weight to the belief that it is sentient, alive, even deified!

Animist believe that everything has spirit, that everything has a consciousness of sorts; although that consciousness comes in many forms. This belief means that not only does the Moon reflect energy from the sun like a giant mirror, it is a being; hence the plethora of Moon goddesses and gods. Animism introduces the idea that the Moon is a being in aposed to a thing! This is the reality I exist in.
Working magic with the moon is personal and can be done many ways, from sitting in mediation while gazing at the moon, to chanting, howling, and dancing with abandon. It can be as simple as making Moon Water (see how-to below), or as elaborate as a full blown ceremony with circle casting, directions called, deities invoked and channeling the Moon.
Most Lunar magic is centered around the waxing and waning of the moon, recognizing that certain Moon phases are better for certain magic. This ebb and flow is astromical as well as magical; we can chart the phases to the minute and understand why it does what it does in relation to the Earth and Sun, and what happens during a lunar eclipse. But there are some magical Moon events that are not recognized by science, yet widely accepted and celebrate by people all over the world. Black Moons and Blue Moons are two of these events.

THE BLACK & BLUE MOONS- are special because we make them so! That's right there would be nothing particularly special about these Moons without our calendar. These Moons hold magical relevance outside of their normal New Moon/Full Moon energy because we collectively have deemed them sacred, special and potent! This is a collaboration of Moon worship between the Moon and those of us who basque in her glory. It is more than simple manifestation, or believing it so, it is a symbiotic response to our celebration of the Moon and our desire to fit her spledidness into the Gregorian calander. Much like how we celebrate Christmas on December 21st... Our celebration of it makes it so!

I love to make Moon Water on special Moons, the altar adds intention to the working.
BLACK MOON- The Black Moon is a good time to look into the shadow, particularly the wounds we carry that keep us from our power, the things we carry on a soul level caused by this life and past/parallel lives.
BLACK MOON WATER-
Fill a glass jar or bowl (preferably free of writing) with spring water; from the source or bottled is fine. Place the Water on your altar at Moonrise and leave out all night, bringing it inside and bottling it before Sunrise. Make sure to label it for future use.
Black Moon Water is good for healing spells, particularly those connected to healing soul level wounds, and shadow work.
